Market research will give the business a picture of what kinds of new products and services may bring a profit. Know your customers, your competitors and yourself.
You need to produce a sales and marketing plan that will help the business gain customers and retain them.

Look at your market. Focus on the segments of the market you plan to target – for example, local customers or a particular age group. Examine the competition. Find out who they are. Unless there are customers and you know how you are going to beat the competitors, your business will be vulnerable.

Do your own self analysis. This is where the SWOT analysis comes in. Examine your strengths and weaknesses. Identify your business opportunities and areas where you need to develop further to take advantage of them.
